Karen Tharp, FNP-BC

Karen Tharp, FNP-BC, is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specialized in Orthopedics with over twenty years of experience. A Missouri native, Karen attended Barnes College of Nursing at University of Missouri-St Louis where she graduated at the top of her class and achieved honors for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees of science in nursing.

Following her education, Karen’s surgical technique was honed as a valued member of the Cardiothoracic OR team at both Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She further refined her surgical skills in a St. Luke’s orthopedic surgeon’s office where she practiced over 13 years as a surgical first assistant and performed innumerable procedural and injection therapies. She had the great pleasure to care for patients in the office as well as in the hospital. Her expertise includes evaluating patients, diagnosing patients and formulating a customized treatment plan for each patient to meet his or her unique needs and concerns. Later in her career she also launched and ran the Presurgical Testing Center, a new program at St Luke’s Hospital.

Karen is passionate about delivering exceptional care to each patient with a very caring demeanor. She is extremely excited and honored to join Dr. Sciortino in his Orthopedic practice beginning September 2020.
